Although I was working remotely while in NZ, I was fortunate enough to take a couple of days off to make the most of the time there, and spend as much time with Kazimir as possible. Following a very relaxed night away in Hanmer Springs, we spent the rest of our long weekend closer to home, and enjoying more of what the city of Christchurch has to offer. Having spent a little time in the city last year, I knew of a few spots that I liked already, but the benefit of having my very own local tour guide meant I was lucky to get the inside knowledge on all the top recommendations.
On a particularly sunny weekend and after spending time hanging out with a few friends, we took a meandering walk through the streets of the city, stopping off for the occasional drink, bite to eat, or sit down in the sunshine. Seeing as this trip was also my first chance to really test out my new camera, here are a few of my favourite snaps from our time in the city!
Christchurch is a wonderful little city with a fantastic personality. The many unique street art murals and efforts of refurbishment are a testament to that, and the character and feel of the city really stands out to me. It goes to show just how awesome this place is!
Pin it for later!

12/07/2017 at 7:06 amIt definitely wasn’t that sunny when we were there.. 😉 Beautiful pictures and sounds like you had a great time. We spent three days when we were there earlier this year and I also really like the city (despite the many, many construction sites).

12/07/2017 at 11:15 amI spent two days in Christchurch earlier this year and even though so many people told me to skip it I’m so glad I didn’t. Even though so much of the city is still in disarray, most of it was quite lovely. Your pictures bring back great memories.

12/08/2017 at 4:46 pmOh, Anthony Gormley’s “Stay” at the Arts Centre is such a great piece of art! So simple, yet so special! Street art also seems very cool!

12/09/2017 at 11:09 amIt’s wonderful! I love how it’s right in the courtyard and so the shadows create more pattern on it.

02/11/2018 at 9:25 pmI love your photos. I couldn’t figure out what to make of Christchurch, it still felt like such a disjointed city after the earthquakes. But I found it really interesting to walk around and I also loved the street art. The Re:Start mall is a really good idea but something didn’t quite sit right with me because they were all expensive brands which I feel isn’t ideal in a city where so many people lost their homes? Anyway it was definitely interesting to visit.

02/11/2018 at 10:35 pmThanks! I think a lot of people feel similarly when they travel through. I’m lucky to have spent some time there and I absolutely got captured by its charm. Funny you mention Re:Start, I totally agree! Knowing locals I think they also say the same – the real stores are further out of town! Hopefully we’ll see positive change there in the future 🙂
